A year ago today…

On October 7, 2006 Trevor and I got married in Kelowna BC.
Our honeymoon was in Kona Hawaii where we both competed in the Ironman World Championships…

It has been a great year. Today Trevor said to me with a mischievous smile (he was in his morning monologue mode; I am not the most talkative of people in the AM) “I am so lucky to have you as my wife, best friend, lover, training partner, motivator, competitor, coffee maker, pancake cooker… ” the list was a long one, and delivered with the humorous sincerity that all of you who know him well can appreciate.

We are lucky indeed. Life has been pretty busy with 40 hr work weeks and 20 hr training weeks leaving little room for much else; but we don’t need much other than each other.

We both feel pretty privileged, to have a spouse that understands the dedication it takes to become a world-class long distance triathlete from first-hand experience. To have a life partner that not only accepts that weekends are for long swims and rides and runs; but to have one that pushes you in pool, switches up the draft on long rides, drops your ass on hills if you aren’t cuttin’ it, gets you out the door for t-runs, and passes you that much needed gel when you are starting to bonk…

It is pretty cool that we both think a fun day involves riding our bikes to Tofino from Victoria, then going for a little run… and that “How many hours did you ride this week?” is a much more loaded question than “do I look okay?”!
We learn from each others heartbreaks and struggles, and share the joy of each other’s successes. It is a truely synergistic relationship and before you are all ready to gag, I am going to stop rambling on about it.
Happy Thanksgiving. The Wurtele’s are having a happy anniversary.
